In Vale do Lobo golf is more than just a game – it is a way of life, with the courses at the centre of many events and developments seen in Vale do Lobo over the past 50 years.

It was in 1965, under the guidance of the late Sir Henry Cotton, that the construction of the “Orange” and “Yellow” nine hole courses first began and by 1968 these courses were open for play.

During these early years golf was still a new concept in the Algarve and not only was Vale do Lobo a pioneer of spectacular and challenging courses they were also at the forefront of developing the entire culture of golf in the region, educating caddies, forming new tournaments and encouraging overseas players to sample the delights of the Algarve. The quality of the courses combined with stunning scenery has made Vale do Lobo a firm favourite with golf lovers and this popu-larity has only grown over the decades. The third nine hole course was opened in 1972 and the courses were already attracting top competitions with the Algarve Open held in Vale do Lobo in 1971, followed by the Por-tuguese Open in 1976 and the Portuguese La-dies Open which was played in Vale do Lobo in 1985 and 1987.

The face of golf in Vale do Lobo began to evolve again in 1996 when the newly renovat-ed back nine holes of the Ocean Golf Course opened followed by the unveiling of the mag-nificent Royal Golf Course in 1997.

The final stage of creating the golfing par-adise that can now be found in Vale do Lobo came in 1999 with the renovation of the front nine holes of the Ocean Golf Course.

Em Vale do Lobo, o golfe é muito mais do apenas um jogo – é uma forma de vida, sendo os campos do resort o ponto central de muitos eventos e do desenvolvimento de soberbos empreendimentos ao longo dos últimos 50 anos.

1965 assinalou o início da construção dos primei-ros campos de golfe de nove buracos do resort , “The Orange” e “The Yellow”, concebidos por Sir Henry Cotton e com inauguração oficial em 1968, no ano da fundação do Clube de Golfe de Vale do Lobo.

Durante estes primeiros anos, o golfe era um conceito novo no Algarve, no qual Vale do Lobo não só foi o pioneiro, com a criação de magnífi-cos campos, como também o impulsionador do desenvolvimento de toda uma cultura de golfe na região. Desde a formação de caddies , à orga-nização de torneios, passando pela promoção externa, Vale do Lobo contribuiu significativa-mente para atrair jogadores estrangeiros a desco-brir os encantos do Algarve.

Over the decades the courses of Vale do Lobo have hosted some of the most prestigious golfing events in Portugal.
